Welcome to the Signal Knot website.
These Terms of Use set out the rules governing the use of the Signal Knot website and services.
Signal Knot is a web-based interactive decision simulation platform that supports the analysis of uncertain and rapidly evolving information environments, evidence assessment, source evaluation and responsible decision-making in professional and educational settings.
By using the website or creating a user account, you agree to these Terms of Use.
If you do not agree to these Terms of Use, please do not use the service.
2. The Service
Signal Knot provides interactive decision simulations for professional, corporate and educational use.
The purpose of the service is not to rank users or assess their performance, but to develop professional judgement, evidence-based assessment and structured decision-making.
The simulations present fictional scenarios or situations created for educational purposes.
The service remains under continuous development during the pilot period. Features, interfaces and access models may therefore change from time to time.
3. Use of the Service
Some parts of Signal Knot are available without registration, while other features require a user account and the appropriate access rights.
During the pilot, access is granted manually following individual review.
You must use the service lawfully, for its intended purpose and in accordance with these Terms of Use.
Signal Knot reserves the right to modify, restrict or temporarily suspend individual features where necessary to maintain the operation of the service.
4. Access Types
The Signal Knot pilot offers several access levels.
Public Content
The public pages of the website and the public demo are available without registration.
The demo is provided solely to introduce the service and does not include the complete simulation.
Individual Access
Individual Access grants one user access to the complete Simulation Player for the relevant simulation.
Individual Access is personal to that user.
Facilitator Access
In addition to the rights included in Individual Access, Facilitator Access provides access to the Facilitator Companion.
The Facilitator Companion is a professional resource designed for educators, facilitators and session leaders.
Institutional Access
Institutional Access is an access option for organisations, the terms of which are set out in a separate agreement between the parties.
Custom Simulations
Signal Knot may also develop bespoke decision simulations under a separate agreement.
5. User Accounts
Some Signal Knot services are available only to registered users.
You must provide accurate and truthful information when registering.
You are responsible for:
- keeping your login credentials confidential;
- maintaining the security of your user account; and
- all activity carried out through your account.
If you believe that an unauthorised person may have gained access to your account, you must notify Signal Knot without delay.
6. Access Licences
Signal Knot access types define not only technical permissions but also distinct licences governing how the service may be used.
Individual Access is intended for the personal use of one user.
Individual Access:
- may not be transferred;
- may not be shared with another person;
- may not be used to provide access to multiple participants; and
- may not be used to conduct group teaching or a workshop.
Group teaching, training or a facilitated session requires the appropriate form of access provided by Signal Knot, in particular Facilitator Access or Institutional Access.
Signal Knot reserves the right to review, modify or revoke access rights if they are used in a manner that does not comply with these Terms of Use.
7. Intellectual Property
The Signal Knot website, decision simulations, stories, texts, visual elements, Facilitator Companion content, decision structures, educational methodology and all other content forming part of the service are protected by copyright and other intellectual property rights.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, these rights belong to Signal Knot or the relevant rights holder.
Use of the service does not transfer any intellectual property rights to the user.
You may use the service only within the scope of the access rights granted to you.
In particular, you may not copy, extract or otherwise use all or any substantial part of the service content by:
- copying or extracting it;
- downloading it beyond what is necessary for the intended use of the service;
- reproducing it;
- publishing it;
- making it available to a third party;
- reselling it;
- using it as part of your own commercial product or service; or
- otherwise exploiting it without Signal Knot's prior written consent.
The fact that content is technically accessible through the service does not mean that it may be freely copied, used or reused.
8. Facilitator Companion
The Facilitator Companion is a dedicated professional resource forming part of Signal Knot.
It is intended solely to support the work of facilitators, educators and session leaders who hold the appropriate access rights.
The Facilitator Companion:
- is not part of the content provided to participants;
- may not be shared publicly;
- may not be disclosed or forwarded to an unauthorised person;
- may not be published in whole or in part; and
- may not be used as a standalone educational product or service.
Unless otherwise agreed in writing, the Facilitator Companion may be used only in accordance with the access terms provided by Signal Knot.
9. Permitted Use
You may:
- use the service within the scope of the access rights granted to you;
- work through the simulations for your own learning, professional development or educational purposes; and
- discuss and share your experience of using the service in a professional setting.
When using the service, you must respect Signal Knot's intellectual property rights and the rights of other users.
10. Prohibited Use
In particular, you may not:
- transfer or share your access rights with another person;
- use one Individual Access licence to provide access to multiple people;
- conduct a group session, class or workshop on the basis of a single Individual Access licence;
- copy or distribute service content without authorisation;
- share the Facilitator Companion without authorisation;
- disrupt the operation of the service;
- circumvent access-control mechanisms;
- use another user's account without authorisation; or
- use the service in any way that breaches applicable law or the rights of a third party.
11. Automated Data Collection and Artificial Intelligence
Without Signal Knot's prior written consent, you may not:
- map or systematically explore the service using automated means;
- use scraping or any other automated data-collection method;
- download content in bulk;
- use robots, crawlers or similar automated tools; or
- process service content using automated means.
Signal Knot content - including, in particular, the simulations, Facilitator Companion materials, decision structures, methodology and educational framework - may not be used without Signal Knot's prior written consent to train or fine-tune artificial intelligence systems, populate or expand their knowledge bases, or for any similar purpose.
12. Educational and Professional Nature of the Service
Signal Knot is an educational and professional service.
The simulations present fictional scenarios or situations created for educational purposes in order to develop critical thinking, evidence assessment and responsible decision-making.
Signal Knot does not provide legal, financial, military, security policy or other professional advice.
The situations, decisions and feedback presented in the simulations do not replace the independent professional judgement and decision-making required in a specific real-world matter.
13. Limitation of Liability
Signal Knot aims to provide high-quality decision simulations for educational use.
However, the service does not guarantee that it will fully address the particular needs of every organisation, professional field or use case.
Signal Knot does not accept liability for real-world decisions made by users on the basis of the simulations or for the consequences of those decisions.
The situations, characters, organisations and events presented in the service are created for educational purposes and are either fictional or adapted for educational use.
The service remains under continuous development during the pilot period. The following may therefore occur:
- temporary technical errors;
- service interruptions;
- content clarifications; and
- functional changes.
Signal Knot takes reasonable steps to ensure that the service operates reliably, but does not guarantee continuous or uninterrupted availability.
14. Restriction and Termination of Access
Signal Knot may temporarily restrict or terminate a user's access if:
- the user breaches these Terms of Use;
- the user compromises or threatens the security of the service;
- an unauthorised access attempt occurs;
- an access licence is used contrary to its intended purpose; or
- this is necessary to maintain the operation of the service.
Given the nature of the pilot period, access rights may be reviewed, modified or revoked.
Where reasonably possible, Signal Knot will notify the user of the change in advance.
15. Changes to the Service
Signal Knot is a service under continuous development.
Accordingly, the following elements of the service may change or be expanded from time to time:
- functionality;
- the user interface;
- the access model;
- technical operation;
- simulations; and
- educational content.
Signal Knot aims for these changes to improve the professional quality and usability of the service.
16. Changes to These Terms of Use
Signal Knot reserves the right to amend these Terms of Use.
The amended Terms of Use take effect when they are published on the website.
If a change materially affects users' rights or obligations, Signal Knot will notify users in an appropriate manner.
